Buy a pre-owned Hublot watch at The Swiss Collector

Founded in 1980 in Nyon by Italian designer Carlo Crocco, Hublot disrupted the Swiss luxury watch industry from its very first years with an unprecedented concept : pairing natural rubber with gold. Dubbed the "Art of Fusion", this founding DNA has never stopped reinventing itself : combining ceramic, carbon, titanium, sapphire crystal and Hublot's own patented alloys, King Gold and Magic Gold. Under the leadership of Jean-Claude Biver from 2004, then Ricardo Guadalupe, the brand rose to global prominence. From the iconic Big Bang to the refined Classic Fusion and the barrel-shaped Spirit of Big Bang, Hublot creates timepieces with a bold character, worn by the world's greatest icons of sport and culture. At The Swiss Collector, our selection of pre-owned Hublot watches evolves continuously : each one unique.

The History of Hublot : 45 Years of Watchmaking Innovation

The Birth of a Revolutionary Concept (1980–2004)

In 1980, Carlo Crocco founded Hublot (named after the French word for "porthole") and launched the world's first watch to combine a natural rubber strap with a gold case. This pairing of an industrial material with a precious metal was considered scandalous by the traditional watchmaking establishment, yet immediately captivated an international clientele hungry for originality. The "Art of Fusion" concept was born, and Hublot has never stopped combining what others consider incompatible.

The Biver Era and the Big Bang (2004–2012)

In 2004, Jean-Claude Biver took the helm at Hublot and orchestrated a spectacular revival. In 2005, he launched the Big Bang : an imposing case, H-shaped screws on the bezel, a skeletonised dial and avant-garde materials. The watch won the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in its very first year. In 2008, Hublot joined the LVMH group, gaining the resources needed to establish itself on a global scale. That same year, the brand became the official timekeeper of FIFA : a strategic partnership that placed it at the very heart of international football.

The Manufacture Era and Ricardo Guadalupe (2012–Today)

From 2010, Hublot began developing its own in-house calibres, starting with the emblematic UNICO : a flyback chronograph with a column wheel visible from the dial side. In 2012, Ricardo Guadalupe succeeded Biver and continued the innovation strategy: new materials (coloured sapphire crystal, Magic Gold), new complications (Meca-10 with a 10-day power reserve, skeletonised tourbillons), and new case shapes (the barrel-shaped Spirit of Big Bang in 2014, the Square Bang in 2022). Hublot has firmly established itself as one of the most forward-thinking manufactures in the industry.

Hublot vs Audemars Piguet vs Richard Mille : Which to Choose ?

Hublot

The choice for enthusiasts of avant-garde design, innovative materials and spectacular sports watchmaking. Its in-house UNICO calibre is recognised for its technical ambition, and its exclusive collaborations (Ferrari, Sang Bleu, FIFA) create a unique collector dynamic. Ideal for those who want a watch with character, innovation and a strong wrist presence.

Audemars Piguet

Shares with Hublot the world of sport-chic watches with an iconic design (Royal Oak), but commands a generally higher secondary market value and carries a more established watchmaking heritage. More conservative in its materials, more assured in its manufacture legacy.

Richard Mille

Shares with Hublot an obsession with high-tech materials and radical design, but at a significantly higher price point and with an even more limited production. Richard Mille is more of a speculative collector's object; Hublot offers broader accessibility on the secondary market.

Our Swiss Collector Verdict

If you are looking for a technically ambitious, visually striking watch with a unique sporting and cultural heritage, Hublot is hard to beat. The Big Bang for iconicity, the Classic Fusion for elegance, the Spirit of Big Bang for originality.

Caring for a Pre-Owned Hublot Watch

Recommended Service Interval

Hublot recommends a full service every 5 years. The in-house UNICO calibres are known for their robustness, but regular maintenance remains essential to preserve accuracy and water resistance, particularly on dive models.

Signs of Good Preservation

Supple rubber strap free from cracking, smooth crown and chronograph pushers, bezel with no excessive play, H-shaped screws intact with no screwdriver marks, case back correctly tightened.
