Buy a certified pre-owned Omega watch at The Swiss Collector
Founded in 1848 in Biel, Switzerland, Omega is one of the world's most recognised and respected watch manufactures. Official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, first watch on the Moon in 1969, and James Bond's watch of choice since 1995 : few brands can boast such a legendary track record. Combining artisanal tradition with cutting-edge innovation (Co-Axial escapement, Master Chronometer certification, magnetic resistance) Omega offers exceptional timepieces at prices more accessible than its "holy trinity" competitors. At The Swiss Collector, we offer a carefully selected range of certified pre-owned Omega watches, so you can access this legendary universe with complete peace of mind.
History of Omega : Over 175 Years of Watchmaking Innovation
Origins and the Omega Name (1848–1903)
In 1848, Louis Brandt founded a watch assembly workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds. After his death in 1879, his sons Louis-Paul and César transformed the business into a true industrial manufacture in Biel. In 1894, the manufacture developed the 19-ligne calibre, a movement of remarkable precision for the era. So proud of this achievement, Louis-Paul decided to name it "Omega" : the last letter of the Greek alphabet, a symbol of ultimate accomplishment. In 1903, the Omega name officially became that of the entire manufacture.
The Space Conquest (1965–1969)
In 1962, NASA launched a tender to select the official watch for its astronauts. After extreme endurance tests (shocks, vibrations, extreme temperatures, vacuum) the Speedmaster Professional was the only watch to pass all tests. In 1965, it was officially selected by NASA. On 20 July 1969, during the Apollo 11 mission, Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the Moon with a Speedmaster Professional on his wrist. The "Moonwatch" became a legend.
Major Technical Innovations (1999–Today)
In 1999, Omega again revolutionised watchmaking by introducing the Co-Axial escapement, developed by British watchmaker George Daniels. This technology dramatically reduces friction in the movement, improving durability and precision. In 2015, Omega reached a new milestone with Master Chronometer certification : its calibres now resist magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss, approximately 100 times higher than conventional standards.
Today a member of the Swatch Group since 1983, Omega remains a fully autonomous manufacture, employing over 3,000 people in Biel and continuing to write the history of modern watchmaking.

Omega vs Rolex vs TAG Heuer : Which to Choose ?
Omega
Offers the best quality-innovation-price ratio in Swiss luxury watchmaking. Its watches incorporate cutting-edge technology (Co-Axial, Master Chronometer) at prices more accessible than Rolex, with an unparalleled historical and cultural legacy : space conquest, James Bond, the Olympic Games.
Rolex
Leads on secondary market liquidity and worldwide recognition. Its steel sports models systematically trade above retail price, but entry prices are significantly higher. Ideal for pure investment.
TAG Heuer
It's the brand of motorsport and accessible chronographs. More affordable than Omega, with a lower secondary market value.
Our The Swiss Collector verdict
If you are looking for a watch steeped in history, technically impeccable and accessible, Omega is the ideal choice. The Speedmaster Moonwatch or Seamaster Diver 300M offer prestige and cultural heritage that few watches can match, at very reasonable pre-owned prices.
Omega & Iconic Personalities
Omega has maintained strong ties with sport, culture and exploration for decades :
- James Bond : has worn an Omega Seamaster since GoldenEye (1995), the longest watch-cinema partnership in history
- Buzz Aldrin : wore a Speedmaster Professional during the first Moon walk on 20 July 1969
- George Clooney : official ambassador since 1995, the face of global campaigns
