For people who want to know if they are having a good or bad day, the Austrian psychologist Hermann Swoboda and the Berlin doctor Wilhelm Fliess gave birth to the idea of biorhythms at the beginning of the twentieth century. Biorhythm is a scientifically unconfirmed theory that claims that a person's life is affected by rhythmic life cycles and can therefore be calculated. These inherent rhythms are classically composed of three cyclic rhythms: the physical, lasting 23 days; emotional (28 days); and the mind (33 days). The biorhythm became popular in the 1980s, when, thanks to the first programmable calculators and personal computers, it was possible to easily calculate its biorhythms yourself. In 1965, Certina launched the Biostar. It was the first (and, to my knowledge, the only) wristwatch that allowed you to read your biorhythm. Biomechanismus of 28-353The Biostar (reference 7301 050) contained the manual movement 28-163, derived from 28-161, and possessed an additional biorhythm mechanism. Then, in the Biostar Electric (produced from 1971), a Dynotron ESA 9154 was mounted, which Certina also equipped with an additional "Biomechanism". This movement bore the designation 28-353. This model was first presented in 1971 in Basel at the "MUBA" fair. In addition to the two models of wristwatches, the biostar was also available as a pocket watch (Ref. 7501 050) and table clock (Ref. 721 3549 25). All Biostar models must first be adjusted to the date of birth of their owner. To do this, you need to open the watch and synchronize the cycle discs using the setting values. If that's exactly what you want to do, here are the proper instructions (in German). Setting values can be requested from Biorhythmik AG in Basel, Switzerland, for example. You can also request documents on biorhythm theory and some "Biomaps". The date of birth could be engraved in a field inside the case back.
