The future we know today is very different from the one envisioned in the 1960s and 1970s, not least because it features far too few Nixie tubes. The Nixie tube is one of the oldest and most retro-futuristic digital display technologies: a glass tube containing a wire anode and several cathodes which, when powered, become luminous orange digits. Using the original retro Nixie tubes from the Cold War era, which have a lifespan of almost 160 years, Swiss manufacturer Gelfman AG transforms them into fantastically retro-futuristic digital wristwatches. However, despite its attachment to retro Nixie technology, the IN-16 has both feet firmly planted in the 21st century.

With the IN-16 model, Gelfman introduces an absolutely new concept for Nixie watches. The IN-16 is a luxury timepiece that combines modern digital technology with retro elegance and avant-garde design. Taking the idea of the most famous smartwatches, which are fully computer-compatible, Gelfman has adapted it to the world of 21st-century watchmaking.

The refined, ultra-futuristic case conceals an electronic movement composed of over 100 high-end electronic components. This revolutionary feature means that the IN-16 watch can be fully controlled and programmed by computer, right down to updating the software remotely. By simply connecting the IN-16 watch to a PC or Mac, the user can choose the backlighting of the Nixie tubes, adjust the brightness, and much more. The watch is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 320 mAh, while a magnetic USB charging cable enables safe and fast recharging.
